With more members than the population of most countries Facebook tops Ad Week’s annual cyber ranking making it the star of social media. In the series Deweaponizing the Gun, artist Walton Creel makes artwork from firing a rifle multiple times into sheets of aluminum. His goal with the series was to make the gun into a tool for creating art and move it from its traditional use as a destructive weapon.
“Stop playing with your food,” a line that every kid hears at some point. For some reason most parents just don’t approve of pushing mashed potatoes into racetracks and making mixed vegetables into human faces. Somewhere along the line they lost the ability to be creative and decided that food is not an art medium. After being sent to bed hungry or (GASP) with no dessert, most kids eventually kick the habit. But there is the few, the brave, that refuse to stop and proudly take their food manipulation skills into adulthood. This is a photo tribute to these people.
The video Social Media Revolution illustrates the dramatic impact that social media has made on society. Many of you may have already come across it, but its worth a second (or third) look to see if you missed any of the staggering facts that are presented.
As the video suggests “96% of Gen Y’ers have joined a social network” and “80% of companies are using LinkedIn as their primary tool to find employees.” With figures such as those, it is no wonder that social media is the buzz around college campuses. At Portland State University, marketing students from the student chapter of the American Marketing Association decided to take the buzz one step further by hosting an interactive event open to students, professors and the pubic called Social Media 101 which featured Cody Galloway from Harlo Media as the discussion moderator.
